A Collection of Poems and Proverbs by Robert V. Harms

Robert Victor Harms, born September the 9th, 1940, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Canada. I was born modest, but it wore off.

I have lived in Chilliwack, B.C. Canada since the flood. Not Noah's flood - the flood of 1948. I attended Chilliwack Senior High. I graduated in 1958, in 1959 and finally in 1960 with, among other things, a major in Art. Then I went on to the University of British Columbia where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology in 1967, which made it possible for Canada to celebrate two remarkable events in one year - its Centennial and my university graduation. During this period, I completed some pre-architectural and Art Design courses. Occasionally I was on the Dean's list. In 1969, I completed a Master's Degree in School Administration and graduated at the top of my class. Not bad for a dyslexic who was considered retarded in first grade and was able to be in three graduation classes in high school.

With all that wonderful education, I was able to teach high school Art and English. I even taught Sociology 100 for Douglas College and Psychology 100 for U.B.C. and night school Art to adults. During this time I also got involved in professional wrestling as the Magnificent Mennonite. Mennonites are usually pacifist. I was too - with an artistic twist: I believed it was fundamentally all right to pass a fist in any direction you have to. With some regret on my mother's part, all my humbleness was completely destroyed in the ring. I became known as Canada's Handsomest Athlete, not just another pretty face, but an athlete with a body that women desired and men feared.

My teaching career and my athletic career competed for a while. At one point, I was a rat in training, officially known as "Vice Principal".

At the time I had three bad habits: smoking cigars, drinking coffee and teaching school. I gave them all up and went into the night club business. My cabaret, "The Blue Unicorn", was successful and I made other property investments which have allowed me to be an artist that is his own patron.

I currently live in a three-story house with wife who is my inspiration, in a home on Hope River Road, which has a sign over the front door: Harmony House. If you have read to this point, you probably are sure that if you looked in a picture dictionary, my photo would appear beside the word "arrogance". Well, in the story of your life, isn't image everything?
